Issues with ports and charging

I’m experiencing weird issues with my new 16 AI Max:

  1. At random it might completely disable one of the ports - the port won’t accept charge and any devices plugged into it won’t be recognized. Reboot helps.
  2. The battery might stop charging. Poweroff and reboot won’t help. Even if I unplug the charger, the led on the side would remain lit even if the laptop is powered off. Nothing helps apart from plugging and unplugging some phone charger several times into different ports.

Is anything of that known? Are there any solutions?

I’ve tried to open a support ticket but haven’t received any response since last week.

Another thing to try.

  1. Power off. (not suspend)
  2. Unplug PSU.
  3. Wait 120 seconds.
  4. Plug PSU back in.
  5. Power on.

It resets the Embedded Controller (EC).

Ok, will try next time it happens. It would be nice to have a hotkey for that.

But is it something the team is aware of/is working on?

@Pavel_Shirshov
I am just another user like you. So I cannot answer your question “But is it something the team is aware of/is working on?”

If you wish to contact FW support people, you need to use the website support form.

My brand new framework laptop 16 (7040 series) does also this.

My workaround is to perform a battery disconnect from the BIOS, wait 10 seconds and plug the AC back in…

Probably an EC issue.

Ok, at least I’m not alone.

I contacted support but no response for now, i am starting to think about returning my device since i ordered it the 20 december 2025 but i only received it on the 2 january 2026…

So i have 7-8 days untill my 30 days return window expires.

If the support does not answer or give some result i think i will send a return request sadly.

USB Issues & PROCHOT issues on a brand new machine where i spent 2.5 Euros is not the best…

I have a strong feeling that charging/ports break after suspend.

Yes, same problem, no response to support request.

Just the time I was about to order second machine for my employee.

If the support doesn’t respond in 3-4 days with an acceptable solution i will have to return it. Can’t spend 2.5k euros for a “maybe it will be fixed”

Another observation: when the charging issue happens, the battery area gets VERY hot, and stays hot even when the machine is powered down and the charger is disconnected!

I hope it won’t burn my house.

Apparently, I’ve found other users with the same issue:

In my case PD 1 versions shows as 0.0.22 and PD 2 version shows as 0.0.00. Also, Windows Device Manager shows error 43 on UCM_UCSI ACPI Device.

I’ve received a reply on my support request.

“In my case PD 1 versions shows as 0.0.22 and PD 2 version shows as 0.0.00.”

This is normally caused by a failed BIOS update.
Try repeating the same BIOS update with the PSU plugged into the opposite side of the laptop. This should get you to 0.0.22 on both sides / PDs.

I didn’t do any BIOS updates, there were no new releases since I’ve received this machine!

– perhaps, this might be related.

Also, there was no error 43 originally.

Well, it might be that where ever the BIOS was installed, it did not work quite right.
You can following the install notes with the BIOS and just re-install the same version you already have. No need to wait for a new release.
The BIOS update actually updates lots of things.

  1. The BIOS itself.
  2. The EC (Embedded Controller)
  3. PD1 (USB chip on one side)
  4. PD2 (USB chip on the other side).

Sometimes, the BIOS update gets through 1-3 and just fails on 4, but still says it worked to the user, so the general approach is just to try it again, with the PSU plugged into the other side of the laptop.

Ok, I’ve tried.

On the first reboot after the update PD 2 version was 0.0.22 and there was also PD 3 version 0.0.22. On the second reboot PD 3 version disappeared and PD 2 version was reset to 0.0.00. The error 43 persisted through both reboots after the update.

Does that mean that PD 2 flash (wherever it is) is cooked and the mobo is defective/needs replacement?

Ok, it was worth a try. It has helped some people in the past. I think only FW support can help now. Contact them via the website form.

That’s already done, got some questions from them, did some troubleshooting, sent them some videos and photos, waiting for their reply.
