Linux stylus writing app recommendation?

Hello there, anybody who is currently using a stylus and touchscreen notebook with linux.
I’m looking for an application to use with the framework 12 when it is delivered.

The use of a small notebook to take notes during meetings is already a preffered way of working.
Being able to use a stylus to take notes would be a great enhancement.

However the current apps that I tried didn’t know how to deal with my palm resting on the screen while writing which makes it rather anoying to use for me.

Anybody who can recommend a linux based app that is nice to use.
Opensource is the preffered kind of app, but I’m willing to consider paid for solutions.
Since my work often includes nda’s, web based solutions are a no-go for me.

Cheers

Palm suppression is a standard feature of the stylus technology that the Framework 12 uses, so I don’t think you’d need to do anything software-wise.

What stylus technology are you using currently? I assume you’re just using a basic capacitive screen and a stylus that mimics a finger? In that case, there’s no way for software to decide which is which.

you guessed right, I currently have a cheap device that is barely able to run my current lxde desktop, hence the new framework 12 laptop, using an equally cheap stylus with capacitive screen. (didn’t want to spend lots of money on the stylus as the laptop was already past it’s expected lifetime)

I will be looking for a better stylus if the one which comes with the framework 12 is not suitable for the job.

But this still leaves the answer to my app recommendation open.
Any good linux stylus writing/notetaking apps out there ? points for opensource, and no web based solutions please as this conflicts with work requirements (nda)

I don’t have extensive experience, but the ones I’ve found and played with a bit are:

  • xournal/xournal++
  • saber
  • scrivano
  • rnote
  • stylus labs ‘write’

I don’t have enough experience with any of them to really suggest one over another – and this list is mixed w/r/t open sourceness, but hopefully a list is better than nothing?

Thanks, I’m definitely looking into saber/scrivano/stylus labs ‘write’

I found xournal/xournal++ and found it a bit awkward to use with a stylus. (but that could probably be blamed on my cheap stylus)

Also I see stylus labs ‘write’ is now open source, now that is nice, last time I checked it was still closed. It really looks like a nice note taking app.

I can’t wait to test them all on the framework 12

Cheers
