Looking for recommendations/advice on a laptop cooling fan

I’ve never used a laptop cooling pad before but I’ve found that maybe 30 minutes into a higher demanding game the game will start to slow down noticeably. I’m assuming that it’s the GPU throttling due to the heat, and I’ve been considering whether a cooling pad for my desk would be warranted. I’ve already installed PTM450 a while back so that’s out of the picture.

Anyone have much experience with this? And if so what cooling pad are you working with? I’ve heard that the bottom holes are the intakes, would it be good to get one such as this: MetFut Laptop Cooling Pad with Detachable Thermoelectric Cooler, Adjustable Height & Angle, 360 Rotation Base, Carbon Steel Framework, Ultra-Quiet & Super Sturdy for up to 16” Laptop (Black) : Amazon.ca: Electronics

Thank you.

I’ve always just used an external deskfan and pointed it at the laptop. Cheaper, and has more utility than just cooling your laptop.

Peltier units (the plate in the middle of this cooler) aren’t very good. Having the hot side next to the fans also means the shunted heat can mix with the cooling air they’re sending up towards the laptop. I had decent results with an old Klim unit that blows air past the bottom of the laptop; it more or less shunts the heat away using the chassis itself as a heatsink.

Start with a laptop stand first, this should improve cooling alot. Besides that, several YT videos show, there is not much improvement from a cooling pad over a stand.

Makes sense, I’ll look into that. Thanks!

Fair, I’ll likely do just that
