Will there be a chance of redesigned battery connector on the 13??
I doubt it - it would make all previous generation mainboards incompatible with these new batteries. And most users will probably need to replace their batteries before their mainboards.
It will cause problems for existing users and wouldn’t fit with Framework’s primary mission of making repairable electronics.
I’m not sure I agree with this, so long as there’s still stock of batteries with the old connectors to go around in addition to the new ones. At the same time, I’m not sure changing the connector is necessary given the frequency with which users are likely to interact with the battery.
The new connection seems to be much smaller in the Y-Axis (if you include the cable).
So maybe it would be possible to build an adapter to plug into the old Mainboard?
I think this will make a great future request for Fwk13!!!
To address problems mentioned by Fraoch, Fwk16 type connector looks more solid. Fragile pins of Fwk13 connector are mentioned as #1 reason against quick swapping batteries in Fwk13.
And Framework is still selling 55Wh batteries, so I assume there will be no problem with existing users, as 55Wh and 61Wh are everywhere
But in case Fwk16 type connector is added by default to both main board and battery and Fwk13 style connector as separate part (ordered from marketplace if needed) provided as backup plan just in case?
