I’ve a pre-built Laptop 13 amd ai 300 running Windows 11. My cursory research indicates the AMD AI 300 is capable of handling NFC - Near Field Communication - but nothing specific to the Framework Laptop 13 AI 300 series. Thus, my posting here.
Does this laptop require an NFC reader or is one built into the pre-built laptop? All of my expansion ports are occupied. I’m acquiring a YubiKey 5C NFC security key. It will work using NFC with my Apple devices. It’d be convenient to be able to bring the security key near the laptop rather than having to swap out to plug into an expansion port.
You could certainly add an NFC reader, but no, there is no built-in NFC reader.
There really is nothing special about NFC that makes it specific to any CPU or particular laptop. It’s just a matter of having a reader or not. In fact, a lot of built-in devices are just usb connected on the inside. NFC readers, fingerprint readers, webcam, etc.
Too bad. As I mentioned earlier all expansion ports are occupied. Direct connecting the security key by disconnecting (making available) a usb-c port appears more direct than connecting a NFC reader (if one exists) to do the same task.
I want to avoid the clutter of having a USB hub on my limited desk space. Besides, a USB hub limits the mobility of the laptop. I wish the Framework Laptop AMD ai 300 had an internal NFC antenna. I suppose that there’s limited demand for that. I’d only be using it with my NFC enabled security key.
