No output devices on Fedora 40

I switched to Fedora 40 from Ubuntu LTS a month ago. So far it’s been pretty good, except for this new problem.

I tried to play a video, but was not getting any sound through my headphones. I pulled out the headphone jack. Nothing. Tried a Bluetooth headset. Nothing. I checked the setting sound settings and the only listed output device is my HDMI monitor. When I unplug the monitor, there are no output devices. I also has issues with sound on Ubuntu, but a reboot would fix it. It tried that this time, but it didn’t fix the issue. Any thoughts?

Absolutely a software thing. Try using pulseaudio maybe? What kernel is Fedora 40 on, because switching kernels will probably work as well.

Is this AMD or Intel?

Also, apparently 40 is out and upgrading is another possible vector towards fixing this:
