[not sure if it's fixed, but it might be] Bluetooth constantly searching for other devices and I can't stop it

Linux Mint 22.2

Kernel 6.14

BIOS 4.02

AMD Ryzen™ 7040 Series

I use bluetooth quite regularly with Sony WF1000XM3s and I only noticed today that my bluetooth constantly looks for other bluetooth devices and will not let me stop. This persists even when doing

sudo systemctl restart bluetooth.service

or

sudo systemctl stop bluetooth.service

and

sudo systemctl start bluetooth.service

.

This also eventually starts to happen again after I reboot.

This has never happened before.

Does anyone know what’s going on and how to fix it?

Also, turning off the bluetooth applet or exiting also doesn’t work

Here’s the logs from Gnome Logs. Does it help?

While I was trying to figure this out, the battery percentage also broke. I am completely lost. I’m going to use system timeshift to revert to a known working version of my OS

Now, the battery works again and I got this:

Bluetooth is currently not trying to connect to everything, so I’m going to do a restore point now so I can revert back to this working state. I think it may be some system updates causing this. I’m not sure. I’m really tempted to distro hop to Ubuntu

Upon closer look into what I updated, the only thing that I updated was the Mullvad Browser Alpha, Heroic Games Launcher, and RSS Guard. I have no idea what went wrong. I finished the backup and am going to wait a while before I try to update anything. I would like someone to reply before I mark this as fixed so that if there’s something still wrong at least someone has my back I guess

So, it’s back to immediately trying to connect to everything again. This was never an issue before today and I have been using the exact same setup and haven’t installed anything or updated anything beyond what I said earlier. What is going on?

I closed Microsoft Edge and it fixed the bluetooth issue…

How does that even happen? Like the second it opens when bluetooth is running, the bluetooth breaks, but as soon as it closes, it works again! WTH Microsoft?!

I double and triple checked this. It will only break if MS Edge is open. Why?

I can’t tell if that’s just a coinsidence, but it hasn’t been breaking as of the last 20 minutes, so I guess it has to me MS Edge

Now, it seems to work when Edge is going only when there is only 1 instance of it. I am still confused and need answers

Sounds to me like it might be quicker to do a rebuild rather than troubleshooting.

I ran Linux Mint 22.2 and then 22.3 on my FW16 for a while and recently moved to Fedora Workstation. I’m finding Fedora better performing and more reliable… all round a much improved Linux experience.
