Bluetooth not working anymore with Ubuntu 24?

Help! I’m running Ubuntu on my laptop:

Linux savaresefw16 6.8.0-139-generic #139-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat Aug 1 03:52:05 UTC 2026 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Looks like recently something was updated and my bluetooth adaptor is no longer recognized. Google suggested a hard reset. I went further and ordered a new adaptor and installed it. Still can’t turn bluetooth on anymore.

THe device is visible in USB:

savarese@savaresefw16:~$ lsusb | grep -i media
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0e8d:e616 MediaTek Inc. Wireless_Device
Bus 009 Device 006: ID 0d8c:0014 C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter (Unitek Y-247A)
savarese@savaresefw16:~$ lspci | grep -i media
01:00.0 Network controller: MEDIATEK Corp. MT7922 802.11ax PCI Express Wireless Network Adapter
c1:00.5 Multimedia controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] ACP/ACP3X/ACP6x Audio Coprocessor (rev 63)

But for some reason bluetooth won’t start. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Scott

Get a terminal window open, type dmesg --follow, and then get BT to fail. Grab the failure logs in text format, and paste them here in a code block. Someone should be able to help you based on what it says.

It doesn’t fail like that. I can try and turn on bluetooth but dmesg doesn’t show anything. While I can see the adaptor in lsusb, its as if the bluetooth stack can’t see it. I don’t see anything in the logs with an error. Current package set:

This is interesting in the dmesg logs from boot:

There appears to be a bug introduced between 6.8.0-138 and 6.8.0-139. When I boot back into 138, bluetooth works.

Quick tip - logs are more readably formatted using a code block:

There’s a little </> icon in the toolbar for this purpose :slightly_smiling_face:

As per ChatGPT, this has already been reported to Ubuntu:
