Not sure where I'm failing with the Linux distro install

Specs: Framework Desktop, 128GB RAM version of the AMD AI Max 300 Series. 2x2TB WBLACK SSDs

I have tried installing both Fedora 42 and Bazzite onto my Batch 11 Desktop. They all end with a black screen, zero fan spin, and no response to input other than pressing the power button to shut down. I’m not sure where I have gone wrong with this. I would appreciate some help. The steps (as best as I can recall) are below:

  1. Install Fedora from Rufus-written ISO USB per instructions on the Framework Guide for Fedora 42 install. I got to step 4 where I selected the “Start Fedora Workstation-Live 42” entry. After hitting enter, I was met with a black screen. After a bit, the fan stopped spinning. 30 minutes later, there was no change and I powered off the computer
  2. I now opt to install from F12 boot selection thinking that my first attempt led to a faulty install on my primary SSD. I also selected to “troubleshoot” the install with the simple graphics option for Fedora. Upon selecting this option, I again was met with a black screen, then zero fan spin, and no response to input.
  3. Thinking this may be a distro-specific issue with Fedora, I now try installing the officially supported Bazzite distro. I repeat my process with the Framework Guide, getting to Step 5 where I select my version of “Install Bazzite”. This again, results in a black screen, zero fan, and I need to reboot.
  4. I try installing Bazzite again with the troubleshoot simple graphics option from F12. This, somehow, gets me to the correct install page for Bazzite as seen on Step 6 of the Framework guide. Unfortunately my excitement is short-lived. After completing the install and rebooting, the desktop reports a “bad shim signature”. I go in and turn off secure boot, only to be met again with a black screen and zero fan. Once more I reboot.
  5. Trying one last time thinking I successfully installed Bazzite, I reboot to the Framework boot manager with F2. I see two instances of Bazzite (ostree-0 and ostree-1), and the UEFI troubleshooting. I have no time to select my option for which boot method I want, and the desktop automatically opts for ostree-0. This now seems to have locked me into a loop of black screen/zero fan/reboot.

I am not sure where I went wrong in the guide(s), or what i did wrong with my desktop set up that needs to be corrected. If more info or tests are needed please let me know I am happy to experiment.

An update after I asked another software engineer for help:

  1. Powered on, immediately spammed F2 to go to the AMD Insyde Screen with the 5 option
  2. Selected boot manager
  3. Go to EFI Settings
  4. Selected the first Fedora entry
  5. Then after loading GRUB, select the first Fedora entry.

Now all that’s left to do is delete the secondary Bazzite entries in UEFI or via terminal. Looks like GRUB and UEFI were not communicating what OSTREE version was to be loaded.

Will update when I discover the best process to do so.
