Hi, I’m having issues installing Bazzite on to my Framework laptop 13 (AMD). I made sure to select the right options for the installation medium before flashing it. The problem is that the installation media gets stuck at this screen:
I’ve seen this before, but typically only on Silverblue when I tried it out a few years ago. Dual boot doesn’t really work with Silverblue/Kinoite installers and the EFI partition must be reformatted during install.
I have gotten dual boot working on Silverblue, but only by saving the Windows EFI file to another disk and then transferring it over once I’ve installed one of the Atomic versions and regenrating GRUB.
Confirming this is not a multi boot situation? Additionally, try a new ISO as well. But I agree, this feels like you’re trying to install on a laptop with multiple operating systems. It needs to be on its own.
Recieved my 7640u fw13 October batch today. Running Bazzite and ran the amd_s2idle.py script and recieved two errors “AMDGPU ppfeaturemask overridden to 0xffffffff” and “Kernel is tainted 12289”. Is this anything to be worried about (affect battery life) or should i just ignore them? If so any suggestions on how to fix these errors.
I have an expansion card with NixOS that I’ve successfully used Steam on, all games work even on my incredibly modest hardware.
I got another expansion card that I’m trying with Bazzite. Same laptop, AMD 7640U mainboard. No secure boot. Some games that work on NixOS do not work on Bazzite, either freezing or crashing in a reproducible manner. I tried both Bazzite and Bazzite Deck, same issues (and now firmware sees two separate Fedora boot drives for some reason, despite having overwritten the first). Both times I didn’t get the initial setup prompt from Bazzite post-install.
For me the solution might be to just stick with NixOS since it works. Wanted to log my experience with Bazzite. This experience surprised me, an officially supported OS meant for games doesn’t work as well as NixOS for games. Maybe Bazzite doesn’t like sharing the hardware despite separate OS drives?
