OcuLink Expansion Bay Module

As promised, here is a useful thread which covers several different endeavours of modding Razer Core X setups, including my own: https://egpu.io/forums/thunderbolt-enclosures/question-modding-razer-core-x-chroma-to-oculink-and-or-pcie-4-0/

The graphics expansion is an X16 link isn’t it? Is there a possibility of eventually having 2 x8 or an x8 and 2 M.2 sockets hanging off of that port? Or even maybe a 4x M.2 bay?

Pretty sure it’s 8x, not sure if pcie 3.0 or 4.0 though

It’s PCIe 4.0 x8. So two SSDs plus something else would be difficult.

Yeah, it would. I thought the bay was x16, but I forgot that it was 4.0 so that it has the same bandwidth as a 3.0 x16. While it would be cool to dock the laptop into an expansion chassis, I doubt there’s much call for that kind of expansion on a portable device.

@Josh_Cook just placed an order for the 8x oculink bay module and it shows free shipping to Germany. is this really the case with the free shipping?

Yes it is.

But you’d have to pay customs, I assume? Or are you also handling the import process/fees?

@Josh_Cook
do you have the picture of the bay you created?
btw, will I get notified for the shipping?

how can I cancel my order? My laptop is being returned so I will not have one of these laptops going forward. Therefore I will have no use for the parts I ordered when I first unboxed the laptop.

Send me an email (josh_cook@i2clabs.com.au) with either your order/receipt ID or the last 4 digits of the card you paid with and I’ll get the order cancelled.

Will the expansion bay be built with the M.2 slot being easily removable from outside? I think that would be very handy, being able to change cards in and out as needed.

may I see how the module looks like?

It’s the stock expansion bay shell - so no.

No eta at all? Anytime between now, and years from now?

Maybe just a progress update then, if not an eta?

Is the last status, but would also be interested to know what details you’re waiting for. Does the oculink functionality (minus M.2) work? Do you need more testing?

I believe @Josh_Cook sent out an email a couple of weeks ago to those who ordered saying that an update would come soon. In any case, an update would be nice for the community here as well.

Currently waiting on a reply from Nirav.
