Does anyone know what can be done with the USB-C port on the back of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics module for the Framework Laptop 16? Is it for displayport alt like with previous laptops, does it support charging, etc? Do we have any information on whether using that port is better than the displayport expansion module? If I have a monitor with a displayport input, is there a good cable option for use with that port?
- DP Alt mode (I don’t know if they anywhere specify how fast)
- Charging (Power not specified. Most likely 240W)
- USB(2)
USB 2.0
Display Output (DP 2.1)
Up to 240W charging

Will it work with 1st gen of FW16? If I good remember there were some limitation on PCIE lines which goes to interposer and extension bay. I have not checked documentation just found the thread Simple extra battery for the expansion bay - #114 by Kyle_Reis
Which kind of DP2.1, if I may ask? DP2.1 is such a scam currently, with capabilities ranging from actual DP2.1 (UHBR20) with 80GBPS to DP1.4 w/ DSC (I think like UHBR10 or 13.5).
I am also very interested in this question. More then likely they are using them at .83A to get the full 240 watts at 48V. Looks like they are pushing a bit over the stated rating. The rating is sure to be a conservative value and the common scenarios should not necessarily be continuous. This is all consistent with the power block diagram.
I’ll check for you tomorrow.
240W Delta brick on 7840HS+5070 Framework 16.
I tend not to use the rear port for charging because expansion cards are 10€, the dGPU is >700€ ![]()
Is there something special that must be done to enable the USB-C port on the back of the NVIDIA RTX 5070 card for DP Alt mode? With the previous AMD card, I simply connected a USB-C to USB-C cable between an external monitor and the rear port and the monitor was recognized. With the new card, the external monitor is not detected and I can find nothing in the NVIDIA Control Panel about DP Alt Mode. Any help would be much appreciated!
