I am trying to charge via the port on the back of the 5070 expansion card. The laptop doesn’t charge from the back port, but does from the side ports. How might I resolve this issue?

Thanks.

Looks like this question was asked in a prior thread see above. Not sure if it changed with the newer expansion cards.

Yes they clearly said it supports charging for the 5070: https://frame.work/products/laptop16-graphics-module-nvidia-geforce-rtx-5070#:~:text=Alt%20Mode%20and-,charging,--%204%2C608%20CUDA%20cores

This is a new feature of this expansion card and may be something that needs to be addressed in the BIOS/EC. Contact support to start a ticket so they are aware of the situation and have another data point. For now charging on the side ports is the best way to use it until there is another update or it is identified why it is not charging from the rear port on this setup.

Out of curiosity, is this the 180w Framework power adapter or a a 3rd party device? Is the cable the one from Framework (i.e. has the marker chip in it) or another cable? Just thinking of things that might not be what was tested by Framework.

Let us know how it turns out. Congrats on the new video card. It is a screamer vs. the AMD one.

This is the framework 180w power adapter that won’t charge it.

i saw your post and had to check my 5070. i have a 180W FW power adapter. it appears to work fine on mine.

Just wanted to toss in my two cents, I am also running the 180W FW PSU and charging fine. Make sure you have updated your BIOS and drivers.

+1 for charging working through the 5070. I haven’t booted it up yet and just finished assembling everything before plugging it in. Batch 7 FW16 manufacture date of 11/2025 if that matters.
