RTX 5070 Graphics Module USB-C port - what DP version/bandwidth does it support?

Hey all,

I’m trying to figure out if the USB-C port on the RTX 5070 Graphics Module can drive my Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" (7680x2160 @ 240Hz) at full specs.

The specs page shows the module’s USB-C port supports “Display Output (DP 2.1)” but doesn’t specify the UHBR tier. The mainboard ports are listed as UHBR10 (40Gbps), but since the module port connects directly to the Nvidia GPU which natively supports DP 2.1b UHBR20 (80Gbps) I’m hoping it might support the full bandwidth.

To run 7680x2160 @ 240Hz with DSC I need around 50Gbps, so UHBR10 won’t cut it but UHBR20 would work.

Has anyone tested this or can Framework confirm the actual bandwidth supported on the module’s USB-C port? Trying to decide if I should buy a USB-C to DP 2.1 cable or stick with my desktop which I would rather sell.

Cheers

Update for anyone working through this. I did end up buying compatible cables to test.

I managed to get 7680x2160 @ 120Hz working, though I haven’t been able to hit 240Hz yet even with the right cables.

A few things I learned along the way:

  • I was getting serious throttling issues until I disabled the iGPU completely. Blacklist the amdgpu kernel module and set NVIDIA as the only video driver. Runs very smooth at 120Hz now. Interestingly the laptop’s main display still works when doing this.
  • USB-C DP cables can be directional – this was causing my intermittent display detection issues. Worth trying both orientations if your display isn’t being detected.

Still experimenting with 240Hz but kinda giving up as I think this could just be a hardware limitation – will update at some point but would appreciate any official confirmation from
staff about the spec  I do understand this is kinda a bleeding edge case.

I’d suggest try asking FW using their support contact link. Staff just doesn’t have the time to read most threads, it’s primarily a user forum here.
