I have recently attempted to change the keyboard on my Framework laptop and when installing the Top Case cable, I must have installed the ribbon cable off center.
After re-assembling the laptop, the laptop would not turn on, and after a few minutes, smoke began to come from the top case cable and became hot. I re-seated the ribbon cable and the laptop restored normal function and there appears to be no damage. It was a little worrying that the cable was shorted so near the battery and if I had secured the screws on the laptop it would have not been possible to disassemble the system without damage.
Is this a well known issue?
Also, as a PSA - when doing any work, make sure you function test before tightening the screws on the system.
