Question about futur of Framework 13

Hello everyone,

I have a Framework 13 11th gen and I’m wondering if I should update it.

In fact, I’m wondering if Framework is going to release a new chassis that breaks backward compatibility.

The latest reviews show that the current chassis has some weaknesses, for example in terms of thermal performance, ventilation, rigidity or sound.

I think it would be a good idea for Framework to release a new version of the laptop to start the next years on a solid foundation.

I think it’s acceptable to have backward compatibility that ends at some point.

What do you think?

None of those are problems for me on my framework 13.

What I would like to see is adopting some of the improvements from the framework 12 (the battery connector and the input cover connector) and eliminating the fragile threaded-inserts-glued-into-plastic.

Unfortunately upgrading the connectors would break backwards compatibility for the motherboards which IMO isn’t worth it for such small improvements since upgradability is a huge part of their brand. I think the only tenable way to do it would be continuing to release new boards for both the old 13 chassis and the new 13 chassis which I assume isn’t feasible at Framework’s scale.

If space permits (and I grant that’s a really big ‘if’) the use of adapters could prevent backward compatibility being broken.

If I cannot buy and install a contemporary battery or mobo in my 12th Gen Intel FW13 in 5 years the entire value proposition of the original purchase will have been a fiction.
