So I got my batch 10 DIY laptop and I just wanted to summarize my experience:
The packaging was pretty nice and the laptop was well protected
Following the setup instructions was super easy. Only the bullet point that the corners should not stick up didn’t really work, the two back corners always stuck up by a half millimetre or so regardless what I did. However the corners were fine after inserting the screws.
After turning the laptop on, the screen stayed dark for a scarily long time. It booted fine in the end, but it would be better if it would display “memory training, please wait” or something.
Installing Fedora 43 Beta was no problem, everything worked out of the box.
The Lenovo Precision Pen 2 works nicely (but it needed a charge and some fiddling to get it running).
The color accuracy of the screen is pretty bad, all reds look more like orange.
I do prefer the corrected look. But be aware, the display simply can’t seem to produce certain shades of red, so the calibration profiles I uploaded won’t get rid of the orange-y reds.
After using the FW 12 for a while, I can still see if it I think about it, but it stops standing out to me. But when I switch to any other display, it’s like, oh right, reds are red, lol.
It basically can’t produce any shade of red redder than the reddest part of a somewhat ripe tomato’s surface regardless of active profile. but your calibration files did help, thanks for sharing them!
Using mine for a few days, I do have to say the display colors are disappointing. Even with the calibrations by @BigT the reds and more intense greens just look soooo off. Hopefully down the road there is an improved display, definitely wouldn’t mind paying for an upgrade. At the very least the IPS panel keeps the colors the same from most angles.
Currently using Mint, but it seems most are jumping towards Fedora, so maybe I’ll go out of my comfort zone and try it sometime.
