Replacement Webcam Cable

Hello.

We recently had to replace the webcam cable to a Framework 13 that we use at the office. I don’t see the part available in the Marketplace and wanted to ask around in case I’m looking at the wrong part numbers.

The part number on the cable shows: FRANCWCPA1339104G2

Is this something I can purchase as is and not as a part of a bundle of different parts?

Unfortunately, it’s not something that is sold separately. It’s part of the top cover kit.

Why it is not sold separately? This is ridiculus

The cables are the first thing that brokes during the time. I faced the same issue, but i’m unable to buy just a cable, why?

Why do i need to buy a top cover only for a small cable? And why i should ditch a perfect shape top cover?

Agreed! My webcam cable is wearing out at the hinge point and the connection is unstable. Mic and webcam work but when I tilt the display they cut out intermittently.

$89 for a new top cover assembly isn’t too bad… but it’s antithetical to the DIY philosophy to have to buy unnecessary parts in order to get the one you need.

I put a ticket into support, so we’ll see what they say.

Sometimes it is just not cost effective to offer every little part separately. In the Framework marketplate a few top covers have shown up before which would be a less expensive way to get one.

Now if there are enough issues I would think Framework would offer that as a replacement part as part of the repair ethos.

You might check the connector pins and the slot it goes into for any oxidation; even a little can interfere with the signal or maybe the pins are not making solid enough contact when it is inserted. If that is the case buying new cables all the time will not solve the weak contact issue. If it goes away when you put more pressure on it you can try putting a little piece of Kapton or worse case clear Scotch tape to thicken it up a little to get it just a little tighter of a fit.

Good point about checking the connector end. But pretty sure that’s not the case here as the connection has problems only when tilting the display/top cover.

FWIW support told me the same thing, webcam cables aren’t sold separately except as part of the replacement top cover assembly.

I might try to cut out and patch the damaged cable section, though I’m concerned using heat shrink tubing will enlarge the size of the cable so that it doesn’t fit in the routing channel… May just end up buying the replacement top cover.

If you try it, get heat shrink that just fits the cable. Since it gets thicker as it shrink, then thinnest is if it doesn’t have far to shrink.
