With the new haptic One Piece Touchpad releasing soon for FW 16, I’m curious what to do with my old touchpad module. I’m sure lots of other FW16 users are going to be switching to this as well and so there’ll be lots of modules that would otherwise be discarded floating around.
I’ve also got a desktop machine and I’ve been interested by the idea of Apple’s Magic Trackpad for a while now.
Has anyone got any experience on what the interface for the trackpad is, is it just a funky USB connector? A 3dprinted housing shell, and a cheap USB C connector and this could perhaps be trivially used as a trackpad for a desktop, which would add neat gesture support. Has anyone considered or looked into this before?

The new touchpad is slightly bigger than the old one so you’d need to replace the entire input cover to be able to fit the new haptic touchpad. That being said, I think it would be interesting to have the entire input cover tuned into some sort of external keyboard (maybe using frameworks new keyboard PCB?) I was thinking of something similar to the functionality of this.

My links are all for 13, but for repurposing the entire input cover, this might be useful: Input Cover controller - reusing an Input Cover as a USB device . I’ve attempted reversing the 13 touchpad module and turning that into a stand alone touchpad thing. I believe both 13 and 16 share the same touchpad hardware (HID over I2C), only difference being their connectors. I’ll be upgrading to pro input cover so I plan to revisit this and work on it some more: GitHub - jeongm-in/touchpad-adventure · GitHub
