I would like to have an input cover which doesn’t include the touchpad.
the palm of my hand is constantly redirecting my cursor.
I’m certain I can disable the input but I’d like to suggest a hardware solution for a futur product release.
i’m a little confused; you’re posting in the framework laptop 16 section of the forums, but ‘input cover’ is a term specific to the framework 13. are you in the right place?
if you are asking for the framework 16, i would expect it might be straightforward to get something 3d printed that could go in that space. people have already done this with the spacers. the hardest part i imagine would probably be making sure the machine still detects the midplate as ‘fully populated’. (although you can just disable those checks, in the bios)
if you are asking for the framework 13, that seems quite improbable; not very many people are going to want a laptop without some kind of pointing input, and producing a substantially less functional component that is almost certainly not going to sell many units would not make much sense, from a business standpoint. if you definitely don’t want it doing anything, disabling input from it is the far more reasonable course of action.
it doesn’t currently exist but it should be dead simple to put in a drop in replacement “plug” part to fill the hole that is created by the lack of a touchpad. On the fw16 you shouldn’t need a touchpad per se, but on the 13 you still need at least the touchpad PCB so that the keyboard can connect to the rest of the laptop
