We are planning to implement the AMD public graphics driver across all AMD products. We have a long-standing relationship with AMD and ask for your help in testing the driver to ensure there are no critical issues before we begin using it. Please feel free to send us any feedback. We will work with AMD to address it.
We will prepare a driver bundle with the latest version in the coming weeks. Until then, you can download the driver directly from the AMD website. This driver is compatible with the Framework Laptop 13 Ryzen 7040 and Ryzen AI300 series.
Following that link, what capabilities would my laptop miss if I were to install the Auto Detect and Install version rather than the Adrenalin Edition version. My laptop is the pre-built AI 370 with all current Windows 11 updates and FrameWork updates. So far, I’ve not used the Adrenalin software. Would I cripple my laptop in some way?
Looks like this driver pack is giving me reboots coming out of sleep. Not sure if it’s the graphics or chipset drivers, as Event Viewer doesn’t really give me a specific driver at fault.
I was on the latest drivers 25.8.1 drivers when I first saw these issues. I then downgraded to the versions in the 2.06 bundle and things were stable for roughly a week. Upon seeing this thread, I upgraded to 25.8.1 and immediately saw the issues come back. (4 times in the first day). I downgraded to the 2.06 bundle versions again, and everything is again stable.
I have had absolutely no problems with running 25.8.1, other than a weird eGPU issue that also appeared in 2 previous versions of the driver (based on my troubleshooting likely not a driver’s fault).
7840U, on firmware 3.16. I guess the only difference I may have from others is that I switched out the godawful AMD wifi to a Qualcomm one, so I suppose that could be a contributing factor if I’m the only one seeing this. But yeah, it’s been rock solid on the GPU/chipset drivers in 2.06 either way.
The options I selected when I installed 25.8.1, I did defaults, which installed the GPU driver and the chipset driver updates. I did factory reset after the install finished, it didn’t help.
I’ve been using the AMD Adrenaline graphics and chipset drivers for over a year (7840u). And then adding manually the other drivers from the Framework driver pack.
I haven’t really had any issues, until lately where I have encountered one problem which could be related. Using the Windows App (new Remote Desktop) on Windows 11, whenever I start a Teams session in the VDI, the host (my Framework) hard crashes without any blue screen or warning. Back to the BIOS logo screen. There is nothing in the Windows event viewer.
I wonder whether this is graphics driver related because (a) Teams in the VDI uses GPU hardware acceleration on the host and (b) it only started occurring lately, so something has changed - perhaps a driver update.
I saw the exact same issues as @jhoff80 with reboots when trying to wake from sleep with the 25.8.1 AMD graphics drivers. Haven’t seen them since installing the v2.06 driver bundle. I also have the 7840U and am also running a Qualcomm WiFi 7 card.
I have used all the public drivers (as you call them) since 24.12.1 (24.12.1, 25.1.1, 25.2.1, 25.3.1, 25.3.2, 25.4.1, 25.5.1, 25.6.1, 25.6.2, 25.6.3, 25.8.1 and 25.9.1) on my Laptop 13 with AMD 7840U, with no real problems. Though I don’t really do any gaming, nor do I use really use sleep, I tend to shut right down.
I’ve also used all the public driver packs since 6.07.22.037 (6.07.22.037, 6.10.17.152, 7.02.13.148, 7.04.09.545, 7.06.02.123) again with no real problems.
I’ve started running the public driver to help test. I’m running the latest public Graphics and Chipset and I’ve seen a BSOD you might want to look at: (Let me know if you want me to DM you the minidump)
This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.
Analysis:
This is a typical software problem. Most likely this is caused by a bug in a driver. A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error.
It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver:
Also just tried switching out the Qualcomm card to an RZ717 (not just because of this, but because of unreliable Bluetooth audio with the Qualcomm one), and the problem still occurs.
Windows. Disabling AMD BT Audio works to give stereo audio support, but the microphone which I need for conference calls doesn’t work that way for me regardless (doesn’t even get detected).
Either way, would love to know what info Framework would need to fix the rebooting after sleep. It’s funny how they request feedback here and in other beta test threads and then go radio silent when users try to provide additional information to help.
We reported some BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) issues to AMD, but they couldn’t reproduce the problem with the public driver. If you can provide the dump file and let me know when the issue occurred, I can provide AMD with more details for debugging. This includes information such as whether you were playing a game, running a specific application, or loading a file.
However, since the public driver has been validated by AMD and is already available on the AMD website, we will be releasing it in our driver bundle soon and will continue tracking the issue with AMD.
