I’ve installed the “Radeon™ Software for Linux® version 23.40.2 for Ubuntu 20.04.6 HWE” driver, but whenever I restart the machine, it looks like my system is only recognizing the 740m graphics whenever I check System Info, or $ lscpu. Is anyone else having this issue?
Is there a reason for not updating the OS? The driver may not be configured to work on 20.04.
I tried 24.04 version of Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Budgie, and my laptop won’t boot outside of recovery mode where I have to fix broken packages before it lets me start up the desktop. I went back to mint because i’ve never had problems with it on any machine i’ve run, but it looks like they based the latest mint off Ubuntu 21.04 or something. I tried both the 20.04 HWE, AND THE 22.04 HWE on the Radeon site, and had no luck with either when it comes to recognizing the graphics card.
The graphics card is natively supported by the kernel on Ubuntu 22.04 and later.

I’ll give 22.04 a try. I thought Mint would have had a 22.04 version already but I’ll test it out in demo mode!

Just a friendly reminder, as Mario indicated, the appropriate driver is provided on Ubuntu OOTB (out of the box). Installing outside of this space is going to be a bad time. Please always follow our guides first.
