PS: if anyone knows a way to power on/off a framework laptop without use of the power button I would love to hear it.

There is a tiny button on the motherboard, top right corner. I’m trying to find a good picture of it. You could use it to get into the BIOS, and then do as @Scott_H suggested. ~edit~ [FW-power-button-mainboard] The black dot in the middle of the button is what you click. Be careful when pressing it, you don’t want to damage it or any tiny parts nearby. You should not to use any very pointy object to push it, e.g. I would not use a pen point. It’s worth repeating though, be very careful when trying to press it. The button is tiny, delicate, and there are small components nearby that can be damaged.

When pressing it, be ready to interrupt boot to get into the bios. Then follow this

In BIOS, look for the menu labeled Boot. Here you’ll find “power on with AC attach” and also “USB boot” . One or both of these should help you until you can get the fingerprint reader replaced. Fyi, I sent in a support request Tuesday AM. I am still waiting to hear back. Your issue is far more urgent than mine so hopefully you’ll get a quick reply.

That way in the future you can boot without messing with the tiny, delicate motherboard button.

• So I took it apart again and this time the power button didn’t work…
• …until I squeezed it really hard on both sides.

If you can still get your fingerprint button to work at all, use that instead to get into the bios.
