Free software is software you may use, share, modify and redistribute. Which non free software does the framework laptop 13 risc-v edition mainboard require in order
to work? Thanks.
This question may be better asked to DeepComputing, the creators of the RISC-V mainboard, as they are a 3rd-party manufacturer and don’t really reply on this forum.
I think I already got an answer from a deepcomputing official. He dodge the question and only said non free software is required. The question is could deepcomputing have manufactured a fully free software computer?
A framework riscv mainboard owner taking interest in the free software matter would likely be able to answer the question.
SoC chipset guys are the bottleneck for open source everything for example GPU integrated.
If you are a deep computing official may I ask you questions about the process of making a riscv mainboard?
sure. its not difficult technically, only 4 months work, and bleeding 100K USD, we welcome anyone crazy enough to join us.
Thank you for responding. As for now my understanding is, that no riscv cpu can provide performance to a daily use notebook level. Still I want to know if todays riscv cpus and those upcoming are able to run requiring no piece of non free software?
About devices on a future free software riscv notebook what can you say?
My input is as follows:
Regarding a free software wifi solution at a minimum we got the usb atheros ar9271 option.
Regarding a free software gpu solution does mali gpus present an free software gpu option in a riscv notebook?
Are there other non free software implications I have missed?
