SECONDARY STORAGE : LATOP 16 and deskop

Hello,

I ve already a latop 16 and i would like to buy a secondary storage (ssd card)
i would like to know if the secondary storage of the deskop is the same as the latop 16

thanks

Sort of, they both use m.2 NVMe SSDs, But the desktop has 2 of the 2280 (physical size of the m.2 SSD) and the framework 16 has a 2280 and a 2230. So it depends if your framework 16 is currently using the 2230 slot, or the 2280 slot.

Gen 1 or 2 for the FW16? The 2nd gen only has x2 lanes for the 2230 (secondary) NVMe. 2280 is the full x4 lanes. Both are at PCIe 4 speeds tho. 7040 (1st gen) doesn’t have that problem. For the desktop, I don’t own one, but on the website it says that it has 2x NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 2280 sockets with heat spreaders, up to 8TB each. Either FW16 only has 1 2280 slot and the Desktop most likely doesn’t have any 2230 slots, but adapters do exist if you need them

Thank you very much for your replies. (sorry i’m not an expert ! )

I think I understand the difference between the two storage options. On the FW 16 Ryzen™ 7 7840HS, the primary storage is a WD_BLACK™ SN850X NVMe™ - M.2 2280 - 1TB, and the secondary storage is a 2230. Whereas on the FW DESKOP, both primary and secondary storage are 2280. So, it’s not good for my project

So I’m thinking of organizing things differently by buying secondary storage for the FW 16, but on the website, unless I’m mistaken, I don’t see the option to buy the WD_BLACK™ SN770M NVMe™ - M.2 2230 - 1TB separately?

(Yet it’s an interchangeable part, and that’s the Framework’s philosophy. )

Thanks

Chris
