Significant slowdown after Windows update

Framework 16 1st Gen without dedicated graphics
System: Ryzen™ 7 7840HS
Memory: 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR5-5600
Operating System: Windows 11 Pro

My machine recently automatically updated when I restarted. Performance is awful afterward–very slow. I didn’t see any updates in the “recent updates” section of Windows settings. I dug deeper and found updates that matched the date of my latest restart. However, there wasn’t any revealing information in those line items.

My first step to resolve was update the bios and install latest drivers. I used officially released Framework drivers and the bios update noted as stable from this page on the Framework website: https://knowledgebase.frame.work/en_us/framework-laptop-16-bios-and-driver-releases-amd-ryzen-7040-series-BkeqkVovp

Currently I’m trying to roll back Windows updates but this machine is crawling at a snail’s pace so this is taking a long time. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

maybe it is issue which was mentioned in latest bios update thread that process stuck in 500 MHz. There were 2 options if I good remember:

  1. shutdown computer, unplug power wait 90-120 seconds and power on
  2. reset motherboard using intrusion detection switch

Thank you! Yes, it was a power issue. I plugged into a dock that is supposedly rated to pass through power. It did, but this slowdown issue was the result. I had unplugged the doc while I was troubleshooting. But I was using a reliable aftermarket power supply. So, based on the quoted text you shared, I found the OEM power supply and powered down. Then I plugged in the OEM power supply and turned the FW16 back on. It’s working normally now.
