I’m running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on a Framework 13 AMD.
I’m experiencing lot’s of issues with wifi, both regarding roaming and speed.
Currently only getting around 20Mb/s while next to the router. 2 other devices are getting over 300Mb/s.
As a debugging step, I’d recommend disabling power saving for your wifi card. For example, I’m on the AX210 and I’ve been having issues with video conferences for work where everyone’s video was stuttering. Turning off the power saving for the wifi card fixed the issue. I’m not familiar with ubuntu but assuming ubuntu 22.04 has the iw utility then you can check if power saving is enabled with:
iw wlan0 get power_save
and you can temporarily turn off power saving (it’ll go back to the default after a reboot) with:
I saw some other posts regarding the default module with linux. Why is Framework still shipping this module when they know there are issues with it on linux?
Than they should inform customers when ordering the laptop. They clain that ubuntu and fedora are officially supported, so they shouldn’t ship their devices with a WiFi module they know has issues on linux.
Anyway, thanks for the tip, I’m ordering the 210 module.
Could be different in Fedora, but Ubuntu is not working fine for me.
Wifi nic just stops working sometimes or device is not roaming AP’s when moving to another location.
