[SOLVED] Penoval USI 2.0 Pen not working

I have the Penoval USI 2.0 pen and it doesn’t work with the FW12 and Fedora 42 out of the box, I’ve tried troubleshooting it:

libinput list-devices | grep -A10 -i stylus

and i get:

Device: ILIT2901:00 222A:5539 Stylus
Kernel: /dev/input/event9
Id: i2c:222a:5539
Group: 4
Seat: seat0, default
Size: 264x166mm
Capabilities: tablet
Tap-to-click: n/a
Tap-and-drag: n/a
Tap button map: n/a
Tap drag lock: n/a

if i do:

sudo libinput debug-events

and move the stylus or try to touch it to the screen nothing happens, the stylus is fully charged and works with my Pixel Tablet, so I dunno if there is a handshake issue or what’s going on.

The touchscreen feels and works great with finger input in the meantime.

Have you set the pen support to USI 2.0 in the BIOS? It defaults to MPP 2.0.

That’s weird. According to the product page, Framework’s own stylus uses USI 2.0, so why would they make the BIOS default to MPP?

Alphabetical order?

Oh no. That sounds problematic. Or at least not a smooth or user-friendly experience if every person who buys an Official Framework stylus has to go into the bios to switch the setting.

People would at most only expect to need to charge a 1st party accessory, before it works. Not go into bios settings… Sure Frameworks expect more tech savvyness than other laptops, with needing to open it & do troubleshooting if you run into an issue and wish to use the warranty. But, wasn’t the FWL12 orginally targeted at young kids? Well, let’s frame it as educational! Intro to laptop bios settings.

They’ll have a QR code to a dead simple walkthrough, I’m sure.

The Framework stylus mode-switches automatically between USI and MPP.

That explains it.
Saw that only USI was mentioned in the stylus’ product listing and assumed no MPP to save costs.
