[Solved] - Poor graphics with AMD and 2.8K display

My Framework13 had an Intel Core i7-1260 with the newer 2,8K display (Windows 11). I just upgraded the mainboard to an AMD Ryzen 9 HX 370 with the Radeon 890M int graphics. I also did a fresh install of Windows 11 and also installed the 2.8K display icm file.

Whoa, the display quality kind of sucks now. The display now has a noticeably softer look. Less contrast and a lack of sharpness as compared to the Intel board.

Yes, I downloaded and ran the Framework driver bundle. I also installed the latest BIOS firmware (3.04).

Is anybody else seeing such a sharp loss of quality with the AMD graphics and the 2.8K display?

Do you have scaling set to 100 or 200%?

I have tried varying the scale from 100-200%. But all that has no effect on the overall poor quality of the image. It just varies the size of the text and icons.

I have a Datacolor Spyder and I used that to correct the strong green tint. But again the sharpness and good contrast that I had with the Intel board was gone with the AMD.

I also ran the Window Color Calibrator app. It lets you individually change the RGB levels. I was able to slightly improve the low contrast I was getting by adjusting down all 3 R - G - B levels. That got the contrast a little better. Oh, and I neglected to mention that I also have the 2.8K display icm file installed that I downloaded from FW.

I’m now considering putting back the FW13 original display panel as I don’t think I can get used to this poor imaging.

Well, I gave up trying to get a decent image quality with the newer 2.8K display. I went and swapped the 2.8K out for the original display panel.

Bingo - I immediately have a nice high quality image. Sharp with good contrast and color accuracy.

My recommendation is to stay away with the AMD mainboard and 2.8K display. They just don’t play nice together.
