I got my Bubblegum Framework 12 in the mail last week and I have been loving it! Runs smoothly and has so much room for activities I hardly know where to begin. I usually run Ubuntu/Debian, but I decided to give Fedora a shot this time around just to try it out.
I haven’t had any issues with this computer yet, aside from what I thought was heavy battery consumption when barely doing anything (running 35% of 16 GB memory and no more than 5% CPU average while typing this on Librewolf with Discord, Nheko and Audacious in the background, BT and Wifi on). I have it on Balanced power while on battery and switching to Power Saver on 25%>, with a fully charged power estimate of roughly 6-8 hours.
Thinking that I should be getting a bit more than 8 or so hours out of my laptop from a full battery, especially as someone who doesn’t do anything crazy resource expensive, I looked around the forums and saw this KB post and this forum post with some recommended tweaks. From these I applied powertop, Tuned-PPD, TLP and added nvme.noacpi=1
to my kernel. All of this is relevant, as this is the last big change I did before this issue began happening. Some of this may even be redundant but better safe than sorry…? (I have yet to implement hibernate, but I’m putting that on hold for now)
I opened up my laptop last night after leaving it powered off for a few days (as one does) to do some writing or webpage coding when I saw the POST warning for the first time. Concerned, but not having the brainpower to diagnose what was going on in the wee hours of the morning, I decided to leave it for after I got some sleep. Come waking time, I powered it on to get the same warning.
I then ran through your typical hardware troubleshooting of resetting BIOS to default (hadn’t changed anything too important), unplugging and replugging the CPU fan power cord, unscrewing and reseating the fan itself, etc. to no change. I left the keyboard off to watch the computer boot and saw the fan spin up briefly during POST, clearly showing that it is still functional yet POST was still giving me the warning. I booted the computer up all the way (everything else still works perfectly fine) and went into Hardinfo to check the fan RPMs, taking off the keyboard to have a visual on the fan. It continued to function normally, spinning up as needed.
While I’m typing this, I can very much feel the CPU fan spitting out hot air into my lap (ow xD), so I don’t know what POST is on about… Any way to rectify this?
TL;DR: POST says it can’t see my CPU fan, troubleshooting reveals fan is still fully functional. BIOS restored to default just to be sure. Last big edits I did to my computer were tweaks to save battery life, unsure if said tweaks would have any impact on POST. I am very confused lol
Below are videos and a photo of the POST warning and the fan still spinning. Please ignore any background noises in the videos ;D
