Have a question, there are 2 thermals pads where the ssd’s are, right? but if I’m only using a 2280, is the bottom thermal pad (the one that connect to the bottom of the chassis) making contact with it? or is the pad connecting to the mid plate the only pad that’s making contact with the 2280?

The pad on the mid-plate is the only one that would contact the 2280 drive. The pad on the bottom would only be utilized by a 2230 drive, if you had one installed.
Right, the bottom thermal pad connects to the 2230 only, if installed. As the upper one is being very meagre, I added a full width one there for better support.
