SSD Missing After Windows Update

  • Framework 13 Intel Core Ultra 1
  • Windows 11 Pro
  • Primary Drive: Samsung 990 EVO 2 TB (Windows)
  • Secondary Drive: Framework 1 TB Expansion (Half storage, Half Linux)

My computer was doing some automatic Windows updates. During the automatic system reboot the computer was not able to find the primary SSD. It does not show in the BIOS, Linux, or when booting with a Windows recovery drive. It is behaving as if it’s dead or not plugged in. I have tried power cycling, reseeding the drive, and removing the battery. The laptop was on BIOS version 3.05 at the time and I have used the Linux install to update to 3.06 with no change in behavior.

I understand this appears to be a problem with the drive, but has anyone else faced this issue with Windows Update or know a way to recover the drive?

Thanks.

you can reinstall windows it finds a product key by default if its not a diy edition in my experience with my fwl16 just make sure to use rufus because you will not have wifi when reinstalling windows or any drivers and use windows RE

I’m not able to reinstall anything on the drive because it doesn’t show. The windows recovery media asks to install drivers so the drive can be used. From Linux this is the output I get when I scan the slots.
