Strange Fan Noises

Hey there! Framework 16 Batch 1 user here. I notice now already for quite a while that I have strange noises coming out of the laptop when I leave the fan control on automatic.

I made a recording, unfortunately I cannot upload soundfiles here. When I manually spool the fans up to 100% using ectool, they spin just fine, but at lower RPM, I have a faint, high frequency buzzing noise that sounds to me like PWM, combined with a noise I have no idea how to explain. It’s non-homogenous and sounds maybe like the bearings are not running smooth? Did anybody else witness that issue so far?

Not sure if this experience is applicable to your situation but will share incase it helps. I was hearing a very low pitched sound randomly coming from the fans under higher loads. I used a can of compressed air. Couple of squirts of air in the vents, and opened the midplate and couple of quick short squirts of air around the fans. I did see some dust exiting the vents. This seems to have helped in my scenario and the low pitch noise has not returned for several months. I intend to do this as part of regular maintenance when I replace my home air filters.
