hello! I’ve been using my f12 laptop and stylus for about 3 weeks. However now that I wish to charge the stylus - it just doesn’t work. I’ve tried multiple/different cables and they seem to do nothing. Did anyone have a similar problem or might know what could be wrong with my stylus?
Sorry to hear your stylus isn’t charging after just a few weeks—that’s frustrating, especially since it’s fairly new. The Framework Laptop 12 Stylus is rechargeable via its built-in USB-C port (on the end opposite the tip), using a standard USB-C cable plugged into any 5V source (like your laptop’s expansion card port, a phone charger, or a wall adapter). Important note: It uses basic 5V charging and does not support Power Delivery (PD), so avoid high-wattage PD chargers if possible—stick to simple 5V/1A or similar outputs to rule out compatibility issues.
A few troubleshooting steps that have helped others (and me with similar accessories):
-
Check the LED indicator: When plugged in, there should be a charging light. To manually check battery level anytime, press and hold both side buttons for 2 seconds—the LED will flash to show the level (solid for high, blinking for low, etc.—details in the quick start guide).
-
Try different setups:
- Use a known-good, basic USB-A to USB-C cable (data cable, not just charging-only).
- Plug directly into your Framework Laptop’s USB-C expansion card (it provides clean 5V output).
- Test with a low-power source like a phone charger or even a computer’s USB-A port.
- Clean the stylus’s USB-C port gently with a soft brush or compressed air—debris can sometimes block connection.
-
Wake from ship/sleep mode: If it hasn’t been charged recently, plug it in for at least 10-30 seconds (or up to a minute) to wake the battery. The motion sensor usually handles this, but a quick charge kickstarts it.
If none of that gets the LED to light up or start charging, it might unfortunately be a defective unit—I’ve seen a handful of early stylus reports with port or battery connection issues. Since yours is only 3 weeks old, definitely reach out to Framework support (support@frame.work) with your order details. They’re usually super responsive and will likely RMA it quickly under warranty.
Thank you so much! It’s charging now.
