Stylus Updates?

We’re getting pretty close to the end of Q3 here and still no word on the stylus. Does anyone have any info on whether that Q3 estimate still holds, or should I just go ahead and buy a different one? I’d prefer to give my money to Framework, but it’s getting harder to justify with the whole not knowing when there will be the product I want and all.

Same question for me, just got my FW12 (batch 9) today, and I really wished the pen would be available by now.

My plan otherwise is to get the Penoval USI2.0, but want to give the framework version a chance!

i was also hoping the stylus would be available before my batch 10 laptop arrives.

i hate the idea of buying a third party stylus, getting used to it, and then maybe at some point in the future buying a second stylus from framework so that i can have it colour matched and to give framework more financial support, especially if the third party stylus winds up being better. if i could have had a stylus ship with the laptop, i probably wouldn’t even buy a third party one to wind up comparing it against.

I can only imagine that Framework had major manufacturing problems with the stylus or something like that.

Because it makes absolutely no sense otherweise to ship 10 batches of laptops without the stylus, i.e. most people who wanted a stylus probably bought a third-party stylus at this point and may not need the official Framework sylus anymore (unless it’s super cheap or much better, which it probably isn’t).

I was not aware of it but the stylus was in development. Hopefully it is ready to ship soon.

I’m almost in that boat too, I’m in batch 11 so still waiting for the laptop to even be shipped. But I will wait until the laptop is delivered before ordering a (cheaper) 3rd party because I really want the Framework one (mostly because of the matching colors, but also the replaceable battery of course).

Also a bit pouty about probably having to pay a shipping cost for it when I could’ve had it in the same order with free delivery.

Yeah, I’m a little annoyed I cant throw more money at framework yet, and instead had to settle for a cheap pen for the interim (with no buttons. ugh). It works fine enough but the FIRST day the stylus is available, I’m buying it. I just wish it was sooner because I want muh buttons and sage green. It’s good that they’re taking their time with it. Stylus hardware is very precise and wear-prone, so a company like framework has some extra homework in order to keep with the theme of being rock solid and repairable.

Same here, in 11 days Q3 will be gone and still no stylus :frowning:
Can we at least have some info?

The first and only video game I ever pre-ordered was Anthem. I’d rather Framework take their time to get it right, instead of pushing out a subpar product. That being said, an update would be cool so I don’t have to keep hoping every day, even if that update was pushing it to Q4.

Pretty sure it’s like 65$ which is a premium price for a stylus.
My Meta pen M3 was 30 bucks and it’s very good.

I can’t wait for the stylus but I really hope they took their time to make it actually good and not so wobbly or shoe lacy.

I don’t mind waiting for a release or paying 60$ for one; but with Q3 ending in less than 2 weeks, I wish they would give some sort of update on it v-v

I don’t need a stylus, except for the occasional doodles, but I’ll buy one to complete the set - laptop, tool for disassembly and the stylus.

I’m an artist. My old tablet and laptop both still work so I’ve been patiently waiting. I don’t have much money so the FW12 was my big investment of the last… 2, 3 years? I only bought because I trust the 100% repairability and I want an all-in-one Linux workstation for artists that is gonna last.

This is why I’ve been waiting instead of buying a $50+ third-party stylus that would fail on me in a couple years at best with little hope for spare parts. Without a stylus, the FW12 is an expensive toy to me.

Please give us some news about this, it sucks to be kept in the dark. Your customers are here because they trust your good work. Trust needs to be fostered to keep existing. Come on!

Edit: sorry for the tone but I was Q1. I pre-ordered early enough that there was no explicit delay info for the stylus, just an indication that they were not in stock. My patience has been running a bit thin.

If you need it professionally, you should buy something available now.

The company framework is not the same as Apple - when they announce a new product, it will be months in advance before you can get it. It will not be available next week in all global stores.

Also there are no spare parts for the laptop 12 for now. They may be available only through support, but you cannot just purchase them yourself.

I’d recommend waiting for an updated screen then, or getting another device altogether. The color accurary of the current screen is pretty bad, like all reds look reddish orange at best.

Thanks. I was not comparing them to the big tech companies but to their earlier products. Framework 16 and 13 have great reliability and spare parts, from real life example of colleagues working with them. My impatience comes from a lack of communication and follow-up, not because I want them to be Apple. Please, anything but Apple

@Jonathan_Haas The color accuracy is a bummer but I have a second monitor and my work does not rely greatly on accuracy. Thanks for the information nonetheless.

Did not mean to derail this thread. A stylus! A stylus for the blood gods!

We’re aware. We’re asking for an update on the availability, not instant gratification. Chill.

Not angry. Some are aware, yes. I tried to be succinct and to explain why there’s no answer to what appeared to me as a question from a person new to the way small companies work.

Btw, I tested the laptop today and watched a few reviews about it. And even on LTT (Linus tech tips) Linus said that he was informed just a few days prior to the announcement. So, they are pretty secretive even from their investors. (screen quality and voice sound were pretty OK - so I liked the experience of watching introductions of Framework laptop 12 on the laptop itself).
And crucially, Nirav warned Linus to be careful, because at the time the bubble gum colored laptop was the only successful finished product. Think what that implies about the styluses.

Even if they’re working out issues with manufacturing or the stylus itself, it would still be nice to get some type of update or even acknowledgement that they haven’t forgotten about them.

I’m just hoping we’re able to order it and get it before mid October because I wanted to take it on a trip. :slightly_smiling_face:
