Thermal pad sizes for FW16 (and dGPU)?

So I’m loving my FW16 - despite the rollercoaster I’ve been through around it - and now I wanna touch it up a bit. The GPU module especially is REALLY kind of wrangled. But no matter how hard I look I can’t find anything about the thermal pad sizes for the GPU or the mainboard, and I really don’t wanna just buy all five sizes of Gelid and waste my money. I contacted support and they were unhelpful, so I’m tossing stuff into the open air here instead.

Anybody know where I can find the dimensions and specs of all the thermal pads used in the FW16, as such? I really wanna get my dGPU’s VRAM to stop hitting 100 C while I’m playing dumb little silly games.

Open it up and take a look? I think that’s what most people do.

I’ve opened this thing up a lot - and I do mean A LOT. I don’t wanna break the die-to-heatsink connection more than I have to, and this really feels like the kind of thing that should be documented somewhere.

The entire APU is ~35mm x 25mm. Not all of that surface area is the die. A 35mm or 40mm square pad will work; just cut it down to fit the die.

Framework sells the appropriately sized pad here: https://frame.work/products/framework-laptop-16-thermal-pad

And there is a little more info on the Framework PTM7958 pad sizes here: PTM7958 Thermal Pad - Sizing Guide

Ah, thank you, but I meant the thermal pads for all the other pieces! Memory, chipset, SSD, and especially for the dGPU. Things that also need thickness measurements.

I put the LTT 7950 pad on my RX 7700s and it works great. So, whatever that thickness is works.

I’d also love to have measurements for the other thicker pads, but I don’t. I accidentally destroyed some of those pads, so what I did was just put on a thick layer of thermal putty from thermal grizzly and it’s working just fine. Hopefully I never have to take if off though, lol.

My GPU hotspot temp caps out around 67c.

Then we’re all kind of asking for the same thing, aren’t we? What I want to know is the actual pad thickness, for the entire machine. Putty is extremely difficult to clean up and I open this machine often. I’ve also lost quite a few of the pads for the mainboard and mid plate, especially for memory. I really need new memory pads and I literally can’t order the new PTM7958 pad right now, it’s out of stock. I can order them myself, I just want to know the thickness. All Framework Support has reportedly given is between 0.5mm and 3mm.

Howdy @Redeye_43 Sorry you couldn’t find the info you were looking for. The Framework 16 doesn’t have the same placement or types of thermals that our other models do. The 16 is a Beast unto it’s own! If you’d like to send me a DM of the exact ones you’re looking for, I’ll be happy to see if I can find those specs for you.

For other specs, we post CAD files (even in stp format) on our github: Framework · GitHub
