Will sporadically work with the “click” but touch move does not work at all. I tried moving it and pushing down where the contacts are with no improvement. I also tried switching touch pads with another person with the same computer, with no improvements.
The touchpad can stop working for a number of reasons:
- any of the input devices not making good contact, so a bad keyboard can affect the touchpad.
- power save modes. Powertop can be configured to apply power save profiles to the keyboard and trackpad. Leave these in non-power save mode.
- bad connection between midplate and base.
Generally, removing the whole midplate and reinstalling it tends to fix a lot of problems.
If you have a friend’s laptop parts to try with, try using their midplate, midplate cable and all their input modules to find out which part fixes your problem.
