I got my framework 2022 and noticed about 6 months ago that my touchpad is not very responsive for clicking. Moving the mouse works perfect, but clicking only responds sometimes. I have opened up the laptop and couldn’t find any obvious faults.
Does anyone have any suggestions for debugging this issue?
In the past (with a previous FW13 trackpad), I had to tighten some screws to fix the sensitivity of the touchpad. With a new trackpad, I’m having the same problem (confirmed with the mouse tester linked above), where left clicks aren’t being registered. I can literally hear the click but it registers maybe one out of ten tries.
Anyone else having consistent issues with the touchpad? Any potential fixes? This is the second input cover I’ve tried, both exhibiting the same issue.
Edit: I just tightened the screws on the touchpad and it seems to have helped. @steinmig that might be worth trying. My screws were a little loose. I gave each a half to full turn. Then I went into the mouse tester in my OS (Bluefin Linux). I had to click a few dozen times but then it started working consistently for me.
There’s a thread around here someplace where several of us disassembled the touchpad and slightly repositioned the metal dome sticker that functions as the button’s contacts and found it fixed this issue.
steinmig: I had the same issue, support in my experience just told me to buy a new one, after way too many rounds of emails. My brother also has the issue.
I’m currently using a perfectly working touchpad. I think some are defective. I tried a few things with my defective touchpad. I tried sliding it around to see if it was jamming against the side. That may be your issue, and you can loosen the screws, slide it away from the side with the smallest gap, and retry. That didn’t fully work for me, but I found that by adjusting the tightness I could get it to reliably double click (which was a new world of fun).
I finally bought a new replacement, and that one didn’t work either after I installed it. However it had a new symptom which was when I installed it it would click upside down but not right side up (and would get jammed). That was thankfully just a rubbing on the side issue which I was able to fix, and since then it’s been working.
adamisreal: Oh no, sorry to hear that the input cover didn’t work correctly. I must admit I was worried it was something to do with high altitude (and honestly didn’t trust support) so I just bought a normal touchpad, which took six tries and ended up working. Thankfully though, I was able to obviously not hear a click, so I think I had a different problem on my second trackpad than you. Same problem on my first one.
