[TRACKING] Bios 3.10 Update failed

I’m trying to update the BIOS from 3.07 to 3.10. I have an 11th gen Intel laptop, and I’m running Arch with full disk encryption. My EFI partition is /boot and it is encrypted too (I’m not sure if this matters). I unzipped the bios update onto a thumb drive and booted from it as instructed. I can boot into the shell on the thumb drive but the actual update fails: it just says “Bios Update Failed” and nothing more.

Questions:

  1. Is it a know problem that this isn’t going to work with an encrypted boot partition? If so, is there any kind of workaround that doesn’t involve basically re-installing my whole machine from scratch?
  2. How can I get more debugging information about what failed so I can attempt to fix this?

Thanks!

Should not matter what is happening with the hard drive as it’s not involved for BIOS. This is between the board and the flash drive.

  • I’d re-download a fresh copy of 3.10.
  • Go to BIOS, verify visually that you’re secure boot is OFF.
  • Format the flash drive again with gparted to FAT32.
  • Try again with everything fresh.
