I have the same issue but on the front right port on my framework 13 7040U.
Happends with USB-A Card & when chargeing on the port.
I never have, and never will!.. plug my phone to charge up its battery through a port on my computer!?! I will charge my phone’s battery from the wall, not thru my computer system which is a 2thou $ investment. wall charger is like 2$.. jus’ sayin’..
regards..
Been a while since we heard anything from Framework on this, right? It’s an ongoing problem across multiple models and it’s made it pretty difficult for me to do any hobby electronics work using framework laptops.
I wonder if it’s relevant, but all my testing on this has been in an old house that doesn’t have any proper grounds in the outlets. Not sure if that is true for anyone else, but I’m clutching at straws here.
heya, Eli.
shouldnt be that hard to get at least one properly grounded outlet for your computer system. Water supply unless it is plastic; if you are at ground level, buy the 3 ft copper stake, pound it into the ground, and run a wire in thru a window. all there is to that. or tell me if I am wrong.
as to if the lack of a grounded outlet is the prob, I dont know, but my guess is No.
Yes, the power block is three prong, with a ground. prob only for safety/regulatory reasons. so if the thing fails, it wont light a fire and burn the house down. But then the power supply sends only 2, count ‘em, Two, connections to the computer. two, 2, to, too, tutu (sorry, I will stop) but only 2, a pos and a neg, one goes out, the other goes in. 2, no more, no ground cause it is not needed.
as soon as you plug your computer into another device thru a wire it complicates the situation. I run my audio from my F 12” to a speaker unit, which is also plugged into the wall. When I shut the computer down, the speaker unit ‘Howls’ until I shut it down as well. I dont know why. When my computer is running I listen to the radio, watch TV or films, and send the sound thru the speaker unit. it works great! but if I shutdown the computer, the speaker is not happy!
mebe this helps. regards..

Was there any resolution to this?
Currently facing similar errors to what @Frere_Jacques was before with my Framework 13 AI 300. I still get the spam of
[108214.323979] xhci_hcd 0000:c3:00.0: Refused to change power state from D0 to D3hot
Fredora 43
6.17.7-300.fc43.x86_64
Also, I get the maybe unrelated issue of my USB C headphones randomly disconnecting alongside these power state issues, i.e.
[107856.759603] usb 7-1: USB disconnect, device number 10
I have them plugged into slot 1, and am on full charge from slot 2, with and HDMI plugged in slot 4.
This is an ongoing problem, I had the first Intel 13 and now the latest AMD 13, and USB-A modules stop working, a cold boot (battery disconnect) restores them, but this is a PITA. C’mon Framework, It’s been going on for years now!
fw 16 owner here. i have constant issues with them when plugging in hard drives. i have 2 and they’re both connected properly/to ports that should work (middle and bottom left side when laptop is laying on the lid, i.e. bottom up). i use them for mice and they work fine, as well as keyboards (for the most part. i think the issues i experience with my one specific keyboard is more of a skill issue when i was building it lol. doesn’t worked plugged straight in, but does with a dongle). i’m happy to provide documentation, but i’m not particularly technically inclined, and i will need to be given instructions on how.
Not all the ports on a Framework can supply enough power for higher drain devices. Hence why the mice and keyboard work fine.
This is more apparent if they are spinning hard drives as those require a little more than SSD drives. If they work fine plugged into a powered dock then that is probably the reason there is an issue being plugged in directly.
all of the drives i’ve had issues with are ssds and thumbdrives. i haven’t used a powered dock, so i can’t say whether or not that works.
