I’m using ecryptfs-utils / cryptsetup to encrypt my home folder, which works fine if I use my password to login, but when I try to use the finger print reader login, it doesn’t decrypt my home folder and I get a “new” desktop without access to my files or settings.
Is there a way to make the finger print login work with encrypted home folders?
Are you using a separate partition for your home folder?
After doing a good amount of searching, it appears that you can’t use a fingerprint to unlock a LUKS partition (which is what cryptsetup uses) because it doesn’t use your password to login. I could be wrong, but this is what I’ve found for the most part.
Yeah, that’s what I found as well. I’m still hoping someone found a work-around for it though
If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, read through this Arch Wiki article on pam_mount and make sure it’s set up correctly. That’s the closest I think you’ll get to making it work (though it sounds like it is if it works w/ your password)
