Hello,
I just got the new Laptop 13 and I am facing a small issue with Unknown Display 31" on Ubuntu 24 that does not exist. When I go to Settings->Displays there I can see this non existing unknown display with resolution 2560 x 1440 (16:9), 60 Hz
. My workaround is disabling it.
I should have everything updated (you can see below). Any idea how to get rid of this issue?
~$ uname -srpio
Linux 6.8.0-50-generic x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
~$ lsb_release -rd

~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version

Having the same issue with mine, except for me it’s a 28" display that’s been recognized.

Bios 03.01

Hi there!
There is no display connected, and I’ve also, just to confirm, removed my HDMI card. The system still somehow registers an external display that’s connected.

Have you solved it?
No I did not solve it. I did not find a solution but it is not so big deal for me… I just disabled it and when connecting to new monitor for first time I have to disable it again.
Hi All,
I also have an the issue of an Unknown Display on Framework Laptop 13 DIY (Intel Core Ultra Series 1).
I can disable it but it doesn’t go away.
I have everything updated:
uname -srpio
Linux 6.8.0-51-generic x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
03.04
The display is not normal. A second display doesn’t work correctly.
That looks almost exactly like this issue (Reddit post from Framework’s Linux Support Lead) except that was on Fedora.
Maybe whatever kernel change broke it on Fedora has now reached Ubuntu.
I’m seeing this issue on a new Framework 13 running Ubuntu 22.04. It shows up as an Unknown 28" display.
uname -srpio
Linux 6.8.0-51-generic x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
03.01

This might be a related issue, and can be fixed by a kernel patch fixing the phantom display:

I just noticed the issue got solved…
I believe it was some update caused by sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade…
