Upgrade Battery on Framework Laptop 13

I am creating a new, bigger case for the Laptop 13.
Is it possible to run the Laptop 13 with the bigger battery of the Laptop 16?
Or is it possible to just connect 2 batteries from the Laptop 13?

These batteries need firmware support and the connectors aren’t the same. You would need to do some major programming and electronics stuff to make it work.

Connecting two in parallel is probably also not safe.

The pinout of Framework Laptop 13 is available, you can connect another battery if it

  1. Max voltage at or below 17.8V
  2. Min voltage at or above 12.0V
  3. Uses BQ40Z50 BMS or identical SMB protocol

Actually someone did put an FL16 battery into FL13 but I forgot the link, sorry. You’ll need to DIY an “adapter” as some of the pins are swapped.

Do not connect FL12’s battery to FL13 or 16 because FL12 has 3 cells while FL13&16 have 4 cells.

Do not connect battery packs in series or parallel, doing so can cause internal shorts, leading to damage or injury
