I’ve had this Framework 16 since May last year (batch 12) and these issues have slowly cropped up over time. At this point given how unreliable Fedora is seeming to be and past experiences with Arch I’m likely going to make a third install with it and see if these are resolved. All of these happen exclusively on iGPU, I have no dGPU module to test with at all.
- On both Fedora 41 and Fedora Kionite 41 (fresh install from last night) opening games can easily lock up the entire system to the point where I have no choice but to restart the entire system. ssh remains responsive during this entire interval, from which I’ve been able to deduce there is absolutely nothing visible in any system logs related to the hang.
journalctl
is empty save for typical normal logging. - Only on stock Fedora, I cannot log in to KDE. After entering my password and reaching the login screen, the loading screen locks up and all video output is frozen. The only recovery is to ssh in to my Framework from my phone (tailscale is up by this point) and reset the GPU. Doing so immediately unfreezes the system and login proceeds as normal, dropping me at the desktop without issues. dmesg shows a kernel warning just as the lock up happens: (sorry for image, currently not booted into that system so can’t get a text only one right now)
- Also only on stock Fedora: unplugging mains power causes the display brightness to slowly increase to 100% before flashing rapidly thrice and going black. Plugging mains power back in restores video output as if nothing happened.
- Also also only on stock Fedora: external monitors through HDMI are not detected unless another device (ie my iPhone or iPad) are plugged through the Framework HDMI card and then rapidly (as in before monitor says “no signal”) plugged into my Framework instead. DP Alt Mode in general just doesn’t seem to work whatsoever for me across devices so I can’t test that.
Kionite is running Linux kernel 6.11.4-301.fc41.x86_64
. Booting stock Fedora with this same kernel has no change in behaviour, but it runs 6.12.5-200.fc41.x86_64
unless I explicitly pick 6.11.4 in GRUB.
