Hey, am looking to use my old Framework 13 mainboard to create an All in One PC. I’ve already got the Mainboard, Ram (32 GB), Cooler Master case from Framework, M.2 SSD (2TB Samsung 990 EVO), and am looking to mount it on the back of a monitor. I do have a 4K monitor as well that I was hoping to use.
Are there any VESA mounts that you’d recommend? I noticed that a lot of the ones on the market are targeted more at Intel/Asus NUC-shaped Mini PC designs, but since the Framework case is wide it will block the HDMI ports on my monitor (which are to the right of the VESA mounting bracket).
For example, this is a similar monitor from LG like the one I am using:
As you can see in the photo above, the ports will be blocked if I place the VESA mount on the back of the monitor (after removing the stand) to mount the Cooler Master Framework Mainboard Case.
Also does anyone have any suggestions for easily turning on the PC, or just turn it on once by reaching out on the back, and then leave it on?
Framework’s do have a Boot on Power option in the bios. So you could shutdown normally, through your OS, then have the boards power supply connected to an outlet switch, one that supports the open thread standard perhaps. And toggle it off/on to power on your board. There are a number of home automation options for controlling devices, including open source systems that could let you trigger it any way you want to build it. Could even have a little ESP32 that would turn it on by button press, IR remote signal, or probably Bluetooth remote.
As an additional follow-up question, do you have some ideas for a USB hub / thunderbolt dock / usb-c hub or dock that would work well for the clean all-in-one setup? Ideally not something that is too expensive. Probably velcro-ing a cheaper USB hub will work, am curious to get your thoughts.
I have the expansion cards for USB-C, USB-A, and HDMI. I want to see if I can attach additional I/O for a webcam, ethernet, speakers, and some other peripherals. Possibly one or two monitors will be connected to the PC, and then one 100 W power adapter, which leaves one additional port for the USB hub. I plan to use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
This is nice for example and has a clean design, but doesn’t have any ports on the back:
So using the above I might have to daisy chain multiple hubs, which I am trying to avoid.
Do you guys just use the USB hub in the monitor, if present?
