When will the PTM replacement pads ship?

Mine arrived, after waiting a day for some Isopropyl alcohol to get delivered I’ve just replaced it. Took about an hour as I was being careful. Instructions were good, although they completely miss out removing the mid-plate.

There was a big chunk of LM (18mm x 2mm and half a mm thick) at the bottom by the foam gasket. Bottom half of the die hardly had any coverage.

Gone from a Cinebench of 12000 points where it could barely sustain 30-32W, to 14200 points and 50W sustained as a first go.

There FW16 instructions for replacing the PTM is here:

At the top of the guide were it lists tools and parts you need, in only lists “Framework screwdriver”.
Under the parts is should put “PTM7958, Isopropyl alcohol, q-tip, cotton ball, or a microfibre or lint-free cloth”
I think it would help if, at the top of the instructions, it made it clear what you had to also get ready, in addition to the PTM pad that FW send you.

I thought the PTM7958 pad was going to come with alcohol pads, or q-tips or whatever else was needed to make the cleaning step work.
I.e. the PTM7958 pad and also the tools needed clean and apply it.
The PTM replacement pad arrives as just that. A single pad, no room for mistakes, and you have to source the 99% Isopropyl alcohol yourself.

I might also recommend including the removal of your RAM modules in the instructions. I don’t think it’s strictly necessary, but my heatsink definitely took a little patient prying to remove and would have required applying pressure on the left RAM module if I didn’t remove it.

Worth noting, the instruction photos had it removed, just wasn’t called out in the steps.

Agreed, I removed the left hand module also.

I’m curious: is anyone else here still waiting on a PTM pad shipment?

I never received a shipment of PTM from Framework. I asked support about it and after several days of delays, I received the following reply (current as of 8 April):

Yes, we’ve confirmed your name is on our list. At this time we are awaiting stock replenishment. You should receive an order confirmation email as soon as we have more stock and start processing your order.

I got tired of waiting so I spent $16 on a PTM pad from MODDIY. It shipped from Hong Kong about a few hours after I ordered it. I still haven’t heard anything back from Framework after 9 days of waiting (and counting).

Very helpful - thank you!

I received the order confirmation email just yesterday (europe), and the ‘package sent’ email shortly after, so FW is still very much in the process of sending all the PTMs!

My PTM arrived, in the UK, and is installed and working better than the LM before it.
Heat difference between cores on LM about 67C - 100C.
Heat difference between cores on PTM about 89C - 100C.

Finally got around to using my free PTM from Framework. I’m here to give another account of the drastic performance uplift.

I ran Cinebench 2024 to completion both before and after the replacement:

Thermal Interface Temp CPU Power Score
Liquid Metal (immediately before replacement) 100C 42 730
PTM from Framework 98C 51.5 905
PTM from Framework (3d later) 92C 55 931

I’ll update if it changes in the coming days.
Edit: Updated
