I love the idea of a tablet/ipad competitor from framework, but nowhere in any of the literature or press I’ve seen so far have I seen any provision or mention for how to attach or the pen in the laptop’s design. It just seems a little too easy to lose the pen unless it’s integrated into the (ahem) framework.
Are there any plans for either magnetic pen attachment, or a carrying case/cover which holds the pen, or future plans to add a pen slot to the unit to store it internally the way that Samsung Note phones used to?
y’know, I bet you could 3d print a module with pen loop, or maybe even like a fabric thing that wedges in around an existing module so you don’t lose a slot… Hm.
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully there is a hidden anchor point inside the device that can be exposed to allow a loop or other mounting option to be installed…
I was about to suggest that it might be worth looking for something that utilizes the lock slot instead of one of the expansion card slots, and you had the same idea.
They sell stylus holder clips with strong adhesive designed / advertised to be stuck to an ipad or other tablet case. For anyone without 3D printer access or 3d design skills, maybe one of those clips could be stuck to the side of a Framework Laptop 12. Or stuck someplace else. Cut the length of the clip down, if need be.
~edit~ clearly I failed to click this before posting, as clips like that show up there
There are services you can use to make 3d prints for you. https://craftcloud3d.com is one. And in some countries, libraries have 3d printers available.
This is a MakerWorld model that utilizes Framework stylus holders placed in the Kensington lock slot and the 3.5mm audio jack, using Bambu’s TPU for AMS (for reference, it has a Shore hardness value of 68D):
Using a quick search of what’s available on 3D printing websites, the following models all occupy 1 Framework expansion port to hold the Framework Stylus:
You can also store the Framework Stylus in a separate 3D printed box.
Lastly, there is a separate box (ultimately based on the Rugged Box design from Printables fame, which has trays that are held in place by neodymium magnets) that has a slot for you to store the Framework Stylus (but no Bambu print profile yet, as of writing this): https://makerworld.com/en/models/2050532-framework-expansion-stylus-case-with-cushion
(An important note: the model above cannot be printed on the A1 mini/with 3D printers using print plates that are 6in square in size; only the A1/3D printers with print plates that are 10in square in size or larger can print this model.)
