For some reason, after a couple hours of usage, my laptop will never fail to blackout. The power button will still be lit, but there’s little I could do with the screen being dark. No matter what, that didn’t change. I had no choice but to try and reboot it. Too bad the problem didn’t change; I start up the laptop, select the option to start archlinux, then it shows me the never-changing black screen. I rebooted it with the power button at least 15 times in one setting, but nothing changed. It wasn’t until a day later that it showed the usual login screen after turning it on. Even then, the cycle repeats several hours later. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue.
Does Arch implement the virtual tty consoles? I ask as an unashamed user of Debian-based distros.
My FW13 will do as you describe iff there are no windows open on the virtual desktop when the machine enters s2idle. If I switch the display to a tty (e.g. Ctl-Alt-F1) and then switch it back to the DE display (Ctl-Alt-F7) the DE display is no longer black. (By now you’re thinking WTF?)
I concede it’s unlikely to help but stranger things have happened.
How did I discover this bizarre behaviour? The very first time I was confronted with a black screen and a glowing power LED I assumed the DE had hung. I switched to a tty so I could log in and kill the DE. When I examined the process table it seemed that the DE might be active. I switched back to the graphic display and lo! I’ve done this little dance only a handful of times but it’s worked on every one of them.
