I have the 7840U 13” Framework laptop with MT7922. I’ve had months of intermittent wifi issues that troubleshooting has failed, I’d like to just replace the card. I often see the Intel AX210 recommended, but I’m having trouble determining whether that card is compatible with my mainboard. (Is the 7840U part of the 7040 series?) Appreciate any recommendations.
As long as the replacement card is compatible it will work. I have replaced wifi cards in so many systems that I have over the years that I have a container full of older cards. AMD bundles a Mediatek wifi chips with their hardware. You don’t have to look far to find issues although most of the issues are supposed to be resolved at this point. I currently use AX210/AX211 cards in all my systems as they work very well and have great support on Linux.
The part and documentation is provided from Framework! Sorry I don’t want to go into the history of internal wireless cards! If you want to provide it feel free to contribute!
But the Framework Marketplace specifically says the AX210 is not for the Framework 13 with Ryzen 7 7040 series.
But my experience shows it is wrong.
Added later: I think they changed it a bit now. The AX210 still doesn’t show if you ask for just parts for the Laptop 13 with AMD 7040 series. But if you go straight to the page for the AX210 it no longer says which models it is for or not for.
