Will anyone use the desktop a self-hosting machine?

If so, what are you going to run on it?

Seems like a bit of a waste to use the thing as a server as it’s main perk is the gpu, unless you are going to do server gpu stuff of course.

If you care about GPU all you see is GPU. If you care about server you see a smaller and more power-efficient near-9950x with 128GB of high speed RAM, which no Ryzen (last time I checked) can possibly match. I assure you for a subset of users that is significantly more relevant than the GPU. All of that in a tiny box, ready to go.

Cpu power efficiency wise on the cpu side the laptop zen4 chips on mini itx boards/mini pcs should get pretty close.

I don’t doubt it’ll perform great as a server platform, it’s just taking a chip that uses like 80% of it’s die area for gpu just for it’s cpu seems kind of wasteful.

If it’s the best fit, it’s the best fit :man_shrugging:

I just switched my desktop to am5, and am going to drag race this computer with this is several modern games, and whoever wins becomes my new gaming rig. The looser takes over from my 10+ year old domain, plex, and nas server in Fractal North Case.

I’m waiting for Medusa Halo before I buy in, but I’m replacing my existing ATX desktop with a FWD because of the power efficiency, and I really don’t need much more performance when the main games that I play are a few years old and not very demanding (I can always turn down settings). Plus power efficiency. However this will also host servers much more efficiently than my existing desktop for things like minecraft, and be much quieter. I hope to be able to run it all night (black side panel and a noctua af-12)
